It's a scary market out there!

Maybe you've heard horror stories of freshly minted Internet millionaires losing entire fortunes overnight. If it could happen to them, it could happen to you, right? Or maybe you've watched with dread as the market yo-yos up one day and down the next. Is this the right time to get out of the market? Or maybe you just don't know where to get started. Should you invest in bonds or mutual funds? And which ones?

It's a scary market, alright; and it's getting scarier.

These are the facts: CDs, savings accounts and checking accounts are at historic lows; treasury bonds currently yield less than 7%; the stock market is in a state of flux. Obviously, it's critical that you make the right choices to invest wisely, protect your investment and plan for the future.

... and the market isn't the only thing that's scary.

Unfortunately, it's not that easy. With so much risk and so many investment options out there, it is absolutely vital that you make the right decision about who to invest with. But the right brokerage firm, one that can tailor its services to your specific needs, is often impossible to find.

Those big brokerage firms are simply not looking out for your best interests. Whether or not they make you money, they receive commissions on every transaction. That means even if you lose money, they make money. Since they get paid on volume and not on value, it is to the benefit of the brokerage firm to keep your account active. And while these same brokerage firms offer a wide variety of investment options, individual brokers are often offered extra incentives to push you into investments that may not be suitable for your portfolio.

And what about online investment firms? Well, an online investment firm is more interested in offering you the cheapest price on your transactions - and that's about it. If you want sound investment advice, you'd better look elsewhere.
